“Home on the Range” is Saguaro Juniper’s annual open house, which usually occurs on the first weekend in March. We usually have a Friday evening cookout, a Saturday community event on the land followed by a potluck supper, and finally, a Sunday morning pancake breakfast.

Can I camp?

Yes! Camping is available at the Baicatcan campground and at the Corbett Center (limited 4×4 access only.) If you want to stay at Baicatcan, make your own reservations ahead of time; if you prefer to camp at the Corbett Center, let Ann know (info@saguarojuniper.org ). You might consider arriving on Thursday night if you are camping and want to go to Friday’s work party.

Where can I stay if I don’t want to camp?

There are hotels in Benson, about 45 minutes away.

What should I wear?

The desert is full of spiny plants, so wear a long-sleeved shirt and long pants. Also wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots, and a brimmed hat. Bring work gloves if you are attending the work party on Friday.

What should I bring?

Bring a day pack with plenty of water, a bag lunch, and sunscreen on Friday and Saturday. You may also want hiking poles, binoculars, and a sketchbook or journal (and pens).

What food should I bring for myself and what food do you provide?

You should bring a bag lunch for both Friday and Saturday, and if possible, simple potluck items for Friday’s cookout and Saturday’s chili dinner.. We’ll provide stuff to grill and all the fixings for Friday’s cookout, chili and cornbread for Saturday’s dinner, and “the works” for Sunday’s pancake breakfast.

Can I bring my dog?

Although we love dogs, we can’t allow them to come to this event.

Is there cell service?

Nope! Unless you saddle up your horse and ride to the top of the ridge. The Cascabel Community Center usually has WiFi.

Can I buy gas and groceries in Cascabel?

Nope! There are no commercial services in Cascabel. Fill up and stock up in Benson.

Do I need a 4×4 vehicle to get to Cascabel?

No, but high clearance is good. The road is paved for the first 13 miles and then dirt most of the way north to Mammoth. Bring a jack and spare tire, just in case.
