OUR MISSION

We are a community ranch in Arizona’s Middle San Pedro watershed that nurtures healthy relationships among wildlands, wildlife, pastoral livestock and people.

CONSERVATION
We steward over 13 square miles of wildlands in an essential wildlife corridor connecting conservation lands in the Galiuro-Winchester Mountains, San Pedro River and Rincon Mountains, part of an extensive wildland area without paved roads. We work with our partner organizations to place conservation easements on deeded lands within this corridor.
PASTORALISM
We’ve raised a small herd of gentle cows for over 30 years through wildland pastoralism. Our herders know all our cows by name, and our cows know all our herders. The cows are our partners in caring for rangelands and pastures, teaching us about the land. We sell natural beef to customers who want a connection between their food and stewardship of wildland.
COMMUNITY
Saguaro Juniper nurtures our human community in Cascabel and beyond by fostering a practical and spiritual experience of participating in community and belonging to the land. Work parties, projects, and educational events provide those experiences for members and visitors. Our decision-making is based on consensus.
SPIRITUALITY
The Saguaro Juniper Covenant inspires our relationship to the land community, with the preamble beginning: “We agree to cherish its earth, waters, plants, and animals in a way that promotes the health, stability, and diversity of the whole community.” Our roots are in Quakerism, the writings of Jim Corbett, and the land ethic of Aldo Leopold. We learn with the land as a whole living system.
SAGUARO JUNIPER WILDLIFE CORRIDOR
Saguaro Juniper and our partners have acquired deeded land and leases along the Rincon-Hot Springs-Galiuros corridor since 1988, managing them for conservation according to our Covenant. Our lands connect with the Muleshoe Cooperative Management Area operated for conservation by The Nature Conservancy, the US Bureau of Land Management, and the US Forest Service. Together, these protected lands create an essential wildlife corridor.
